Achievements

Through this project with IAL’s Centre for Workplace Learning and Performance (CWLP) and our Certified Workplace Learning Specialist (CWLS), my team and I were able to achieve the following in our workplace transformation project:

  • Successful identification of skills gaps among TCL’s trainers.
  • Effective usage of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Safe and confident handling of common landscape equipment.
  • Reduction of skills gaps as TCL trainers are now able to conduct their own trainings effectively and confidently.

Challenges

Prior to the project with IAL CWLP and our Learning Specialist, our trainers encountered difficulty when instructing teaching and facilitating. This may be attributed to the lack of confidence and skills to do so.

It became evident to us that workplace learning interventions had to be put in place to bridge the knowledge and performance gaps of our trainers, in order to raise their confidence and upgrade their skillsets.

Interventions

Noticing these performance gaps, we worked with IAL’s Certified Workplace Learning Specialist (CWLS) to design a learning solution that would competently upskill our trainers by:

1

Identifying the skills gaps of trainers through needs analysis and determining the type of training to be conducted.

2

Co-creating the relevant landscape training course and course content.

3

Conducting live-demonstration in guiding TCL trainers on venue selection, content preparation, training plan.

4

Providing opportunities to TCL trainers to take charge of subsequent training with CWLS sharing feedback.

5

Evaluating the project and summarising the findings and recommendations for areas of improvement.
