Challenges

As part of the built environment industry, AEGIS needed to address short term manpower needs and to pave way for long term transformation plans. It is therefore, imperative to develop the skills of its tradesmen by providing work opportunities to graduates from Institute for Technical Education and APSN to support their clients in the hospitality sector with skilled workforce in planned maintenance.

Interventions

The project team started to improve existing OJT training system for both Supervisors and Chargehands as well as design learning resources:

1

Implementation of communication sessions and observational learning workshop for Supervisors and Chargehands to guide, understand and work with PWIDs

2

Creation of Learning Resources:
  • Learning videos and step-by-step pictorial guides
  • A learning guide for quick reference to the learning resources
  • A learning platform for easy access to videos and pictorial guides through smart phone

3

Improvement of current OJT system to support skills development of APSN trainees as well as provision of guidance and observation opportunities:
  • Supervisors' brief to Chargehands on using the videos and pictorial guides

4

Empowerment of APSN trainees by Chargehands to pursue self-directed learning, i.e. watching videos and using the pictorial guides on personal mobile phones
