This initiative focused on refining the AMAP (Advancer Managing Agent Partnership) curriculum to align with the Skills Framework and enhance Advancer Global Facility’s Approved Training Organisation (ATO) status.

In pursuit of this, the company embarked on a workplace learning project as a member of the Learning Enterprise Alliance (LEA) with the IAL’s Centre for Workplace Learning and Performance (CWLP) in 2022, representing the National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning (NACE@IAL).  The project involved various interventions, including comprehensive workplace coaching for senior leaders, the development of e-Learning resources, and a thorough revision of the AMAP curriculum.

Identifying existing performance gaps

To address the evolving demands of the industry and ensure the continuous professional development of employees, Advancer Global Facility embarked on a project aimed at revising the AMAP curriculum and aligning it with the Skills Framework. This initiative was crucial to support the application of the Singapore SkillsFuture's ATO status.

Through thorough analysis and discussions with key stakeholders, including senior leaders and HR managers, the project team identified several performance gaps:

  1. Before the project, there was a misalignment between the AMAP curriculum and the industry's Skills Framework. This misalignment hindered employees from acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge required for their roles within the Built Environment sector.
  1. The absence of structured workplace coaching and mentoring programmes led to a gap in employees' ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Senior leaders lacked the necessary skills to effectively mentor and coach employees in workplace learning initiatives.
  1. The existing training materials did not adequately address emerging challenges such as fogging and mosquito prevention, which were crucial aspects within the Built Environment industry. This gap impeded employees' ability to address evolving industry standards and practices.

Integration of workplace learning interventions

After the identification of the gaps above, the project team at Advancer Global Facility, together with IAL’s workplace learning consultant, worked together to co-develop and implement the following:

  1. The project team focused on revising the AMAP curriculum to align it with the Skills Framework for the Built Environment sector. This involved mapping the existing curriculum to the specific skills and knowledge outlined in the framework, ensuring that employees receive training that directly correlates with industry requirements.
  1. Recognising the importance of practical application of knowledge, the team implemented workplace coaching training for senior leaders. This initiative aimed to equip them with the skills needed to mentor employees effectively, bridging the gap between theory and practice. By empowering senior leaders to serve as mentors, employees could receive guidance tailored to their specific roles and challenges.
  1. The project team developed two e-Learning videos on fogging and preventing mosquitoes, addressing emerging challenges within the Built Environment sector. These resources complemented the revised curriculum, ensuring that employees are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills to tackle industry-specific issues.

Scaling up on the workplace learning imperative

At the end of the project with IAL CWLP, Advancer Global Facility was able to achieve the following outcomes:

Use of the revised AMAP curriculum to support the application of the SSG’s ATO status.

Use of the course proposal for Smart Facilities Management as the first module for the curriculum.

Enable the senior leaders to use coaching as the workplace learning method.

Advancer Global Facility collaborated with IAL to enhance workforce capabilities in the Built Environment industry. They aligned training with industry standards through interventions like workplace coaching and e-Learning modules. This led to significant outcomes, including revised curriculum implementation and senior leaders' empowerment in coaching. Approximately 12 employees benefited from these initiatives. This collaboration exemplifies proactive workforce development in the industry.

What's next for Advancer Global Facility?

Advancer Global Facility has set the stage for continued growth and success through its strategic partnership with IAL and its commitment to employee development. With the foundation laid by the revised AMAP curriculum and the implementation of workplace coaching, Advancer Global Facility is poised to embark on a journey of further innovation and excellence.
