4m 21s

Introduction

Individual reflection is a personal technique that allows the individual to learn directly through what happened at work. During reflection, the individual to steps back from a work experience and examine it from different aspects.  When done correctly, one becomes more self-aware and is able to analyse their work for ways to improve performance.  Reflecting on one’s work can be done anytime and anywhere.

6 Steps to Learn Through Individual Reflection

  1. Recall a recent incident at work that you feel had a significant impact on you.
  2. Describe the facts of the incident with as much detail as you can.
  3. Recall and explore the feelings and thinking that were going on inside you.
  4. Look at the workplace incident from different angles. Consider what went well with the experience and what did not go so well.
  5. Ask yourself how you might have contributed and what could have been done.
  6. Ask yourself what you learnt from the workplace incident and what you would do differently
